My little sister Maizy & I (with sewing help from mom and friends) cut and sew our fabric scrap birds in Montana. It all started 4 years ago when I made lovebirds to help raise money for an all-abilities playground class project in my home town. So many people liked them!
After reading Malala Yousafzai's book, "I am Malala" I did not know that some girls could not go to school, learn, play 4-square, write poems and learn about the world. So with help from Maizy, we decided to do something about it.
After school and our hockey practice, we cut and sew lovebirds to help raise money to send girls to school around the world. We make the lovebirds from recycled fabric scraps donated from all over the U.S. (If you would like to donate fabric or stuffing, or have time to sew lovebirds click here). Today, our lovebirds have flown all over the world and we are excited to know that we have made a difference in girl's lives.
"I like making love birds because I like doing something for people especially girls that are my age" - Maizy
" When you educate a girl, she will one day teach her children more about the world leading to more peace and understanding" - Lily
